ShopSanity automatically organizes receipts stored in Gmail or Yahoo Mail. Many corporate email systems actually use Gmail behind the scenes, and we do support those – if you’re unsure if your system runs Gmail, just try signing up.
Unfortunately, we don’t currently support other mail systems like Hotmail, your ISP, or your non-Gmail corporate email. But all hope is not lost! Gmail supports fairly easy import of other accounts, so if you’d like to use ShopSanity and don’t have Gmail or Yahoo Mail, you can follow these steps to get up and running:
1. Open a new Gmail account.
2. Enable POP3 access to your other account by following Gmail’s instructions. Those instructions are here. We recommend checking all of the options when the option screen pops up.
3. If you file your messages in your other account into folders, also follow Gmail’s instructions for importing. If you follow their directions, your original account will be unchanged. Here’s a link to their instructions.
4. Sign up for ShopSanity using this new Gmail account. Keep in mind that sometimes it takes Gmail a little while to import your other account.
Why so roundabout? ShopSanity uses something called OAuth 2.0, an open protocol to allow secure API authorization in a simple and standard method from desktop and web applications. OAuth was developed and is supported by Twitter, Facebook, Google, and Yahoo. Unfortunately, Hotmail and other email providers do not yet support OAuth and so do not yet work with ShopSanity.
